This is one of the cleanest plots I have seen in a long time. While it is simple, the way the story plays out to the very end creates a rich and thought-provoking series of “what-ifs” . . .
The author has done a great job of creating the three main characters, each with definite personality traits that stay true to who they are given the experiences that each has and has had prior to the opening pages of this book.
I was sucked into the story right away, and the tension never let up through to the end. The story is paced very well, with rising tension all the way to the climax in the story. From a marketing or target audience perspective, this work should be attractive to any readers who like zombie stories and stories of apocalyptic events.
The writing style is crisp and accessible . . . achieving interior dialogue and philosophical questions that readers will be forced to contemplate. It creates the ability for this work to explore the deeper questions. How can life be worth living if we all die in the end? We can only consider unanswered questions as being those that are raised at the end of the book and which are not part of the scope of the book to answer, but only to raise for consideration by readers. We also wonder what is to become of humanity itself. This question is also beyond the scope of this book, but it will linger in readers’ minds after the closing scene. But no matter which way the end goes, it is a thought-provoking story.
The best horror stories leave room for considered thought, rather than just the blood and gore we might ordinarily associate with horror.
Woo hoo! What a fun Zombie book this was! There were so many things I loved about this book. First, it was full of action. I loved all the great descriptions, even the gross and gory ones, because you know, that's what makes a great zombie book.
I loved how the chapters took turns from the point[s] of view of the zombie . . . because you got three different views of what was going on. Great character development! I thought Jeff's character as a zombie was especially excellent, very well done. I loved knowing what was going on inside of his head! I loved that he knew what was happening to him and tried to control it. He was very likeable, even though he was a zombie. I think he was my favorite character!
I thought this was fun, very well written, and also very original as far as zombie books go, some new ideas. It also had a great ending!
